To our community,
I recently visited the nursing home in Rifle. My granddad is a resident there. There are veterans from all over living there. These are all veterans or their spouses who at some time or another served our country.
Some of the veterans have supportive families and some do not. Before I left, I had asked the charge nurse and activities director if they had a wish list for Christmas. I received a long list of residents and their needs.
As a single mom, I knew I could help some, but I would need some help to fill the list. I came home, wrote to our newspapers and people I knew, asking if anyone else would be interested in helping.
People have been wonderful and generous. I thank you very much. We are about halfway there.
I will deliver all of the gifts to the nursing home on Dec. 15. If you are interested in helping -- so we can make sure all of the residents receive a gift this Christmas -- call me at 826-4352 or 629-9674.
Items still needed: cute hair things, nonslip socks, suspenders, candy and cookies, sugar-free candy and cookies, two popcorn tins, one plastic coffee mug, wrapping paper, tape, bows, one extra-large house dress, one large Hawaiian shirt, three new movies, books on tape, men and women's socks, one sweatshirt (XXXL), men's and women's sweatshirts (L, XL), one Western shirt (L), two ladies sweaters (L) -- one woman likes pink, art supplies, CDs, three new ball caps, stocking hats, one dark-colored scarf, large print books, and two button-down long sleeve shirts (L). Checks may also be made out to Carol or to the Colorado Veterans Nursing Home of Rifle to buy gifts.
