Triathlon triumph
Three teams and two individuals compete in local event
The cold, damp weather Saturday morning didn't hinder the local participants of the Trapper Fitness Center's For the Health of It triathlon in Craig.
"I think the cool weather helped out some," said Tammy Workman, the triathlon's coordinator. "We made it fun and interesting despite the low turnout."
The triathlon, in its 13th year of competition, featured a ½-mile swim, 15 ½-mile bike ride and a 5k run.
The race had two individual competitors and three teams show up at the Craig Swimming Complex for the 8 a.m. start time.
Chloe Gilchrist, her father Tom Gilchrist and Bud McArthur made up the first place team, which finished just 11 seconds ahead of the second place team in 1:31.26.
The second place team of Tim Aultman, Andrew Aultman and Bob Springer had kept close throughout the race but fell behind.
The individual race was fairly competitive, too.
David Greathouse was on a roll Saturday, until he stumbled off course and got lost. Workman said Greathouse took a wrong turn during the biking portion of the race and was sent back out to finish the course.
Greathouse was behind leader Mike Tucci, until the confusion. Greathouse finished in 2:13.55.
Tucci completed his fourth Trapper Fitness triathlon in 1:41.21.
Chase Williams finished the course in 1:49.35.
"It was tough, but it went good," Williams said.
Tucci said he was pleased with the day, rainy weather or not.
"The weather was great for doing the race," Tucci said. "It wasn't great weather to watch in, but it was wonderful to compete in."
