Local woman appointed to national committee
A local business owner has been asked to participate in a national program.
The National Republican Congressional Committee recently appointed Deb Pollok, owner of Pollok Consulting in Craig, to the Business Advisory Council. She was given the 2006 National Leadership Award and was named an honorary chairwoman.
Pollok was notified of the appointment on Aug. 2.
"I couldn't believe it," she said. "I think it'll be a great forum."
Pollok, a 1978 graduate of Moffat County High School and 1982 graduate of the University of Denver, runs the business consulting company from her home in Craig.
She said she primarily consults oil and mortgage companies in Moffat, Routt, Rio Blanco and Garfield counties. She also is a title examiner.
Pollok said the committee is active in state and national issues affecting small business owners.
The Republican committee's Web site, www.nrcc.org, said those who are asked to be honorary chairpersons participate in periodic strategy sessions, give input on economic and tax issues and complete private surveys and policy briefings. They also attend many social and political events.
The Web site also states that most of the committee's contributions -- to cover an expense list of more than $6 million -- come from their honorary chairpersons.
Pollok said she does not know who nominated her for the council, but is excited for the opportunity to represent small business owners, particularly ones from rural Colorado.
"Moffat and Northwest Colorado really need people to represent them," Pollok said. This committee "is about making sure small business has a voice in Washington."
