4-H group members strut their stuff at Fashion Revue

August 4, 2006

It was no Milan, but the Craig 4-H group members brought their own flavor of fashion to the area Friday afternoon.

The group hosted the Fashion Revue at the Fairground Pavilion. Months of diligent sewing or knitting wrapped up with the girls strutting their stuff in self-tailored clothing.

"The girls looked fantastic," 4-H agent and event-coordinator Alisa Comstock said.

"She's cute," a proud mother whispered as the young model made her way across the stage, interrupted by the occasional flash from a family member's camera.

After showing their clothes solo, the models lined up according to age and made a final debut. But, the girls will have to go without knowing who the winners are until Tuesday, when the results are announced at the fair.

Cheyenne Ossen, 10, was sporting a hand-knitted sweater she fashioned from a German pattern, which was translated by her knitting instructor Andre Huffmire.

Ossen said getting up on stage and bearing the nervousness of being in front a crowd is worth it in the end.

"It gives you an opinion," she said. "It gives you courage."

And after winning grand champion for knitting last year, Cheyenne definitely was equal to the task of being on stage this year.

As 9-year-old Abigail Gonzales jumped down from the stage after pictures, her father, Bryan, met her with a smile.

"It helps build a little bit of confidence in their sewing and knitting skills," he said. "They did a good job."
