The Moffat Basketball Association hopes to show off its basketball teams this weekend. MBA teams from fifth grade to eighth grade, boys and girls, have been on the road to tournaments for most of 2006, and for the second time, they're home.
"We have high expectations for our teams this weekend," MBA director Steve Maneotis said. "We have a team in every division."
The fourth annual Bill Lawrence Classic starts after school Friday at Moffat County High School and Craig Intermediate School. Games at Craig Middle School will start an hour later.
Maneotis said he expected nearly 40 teams in town for the tournament.
Teams from Wyoming and Western Colorado have registered to play. The tournament will run Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
An addition this year will be a 3-point shooting contest. Maneotis said each division will have a contest and that the contest will run throughout the weekend with the winners shooting at halftime of the championship games Sunday.
Two successful MBA teams have been the sixth-grade girls and the seventh-grade boys. The seventh-grade boys have been first or second in every tournament this season.
"All of our teams have had a fair share of wins," Maneotis said.
The cost for the tournament is $3 a game for adults and free for children. A weekend pass can be purchased for $6, and a family pass can be purchased for $10.
Championship games will begin at Moffat County High School at 10 a.m. Sunday. They'll run from the youngest age division (fifth and sixth grade) up.
