Attorneys work to resolve meth case
One of the defendants from December's methamphetamine sweep is close to working out a plea agreement with prosecutors, lawyers in the case said Wednesday.
Trixie Rae Albaugh, 30, of Craig, appeared in 14th Judicial District Court on Wednesday afternoon for a plea hearing.
Albaugh is charged with meth distribution and possession.
Albaugh's attorney, David Waite, asked Chief Judge Michael O'Hara for a continuance in the case, saying he was working on a plea agreement with the District Attorney's Office.
Deputy District Attorney Michael Stern said an agreement could be completed soon.
"I believe we're close to a resolution," Stern said.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
O'Hara continued the case until May 16 but said he expected Albaugh to enter a plea on that day.
"I'm not going to be inclined to continue this case again," O'Hara said.
O'Hara granted Albaugh a continuance in the case on March 6, as well.
Waite said part of the reason Albaugh needed more time was so he could look into possible drug treatment options for her.
Albaugh was one of 15 people arrested last December in one of the biggest meth sweeps in Moffat County history.
Local law enforcement officers and agents from the Greater Routt and Moffat Narcotics Enforcement Team made the arrests after a six-month investigation.
Police said they have evidence that the defendants sold meth to undercover agents or informants.
Albaugh has been out of Moffat County Jail on $50,000 bail since Jan. 24.
