The Moffat County boys soccer team couldn't keep its two-game winning streak alive Thursday.
Class 5A Fruita Monument went up 3-0 in the first half on the way to a 4-1 victory in Fruita.
"We shut them down in the second half and had a couple of more opportunities in the second half," Moffat County coach Jeff Hammond said. "I was proud of our defense because they shut (Fruita) down the second half."
Moffat County goalie Mal--colm Hillewaert made 13 saves in the loss. Pepe Loya scored his 11th goal of the season in the game. He's now two goals away from setting the team record for goals in season.
"I can see why (Fruita is) challenging Montrose for the lead in that league," Hammond said. "They were disciplined, and they played well."
Next up for Moffat County, 2-2 in the Western Slope League and 2-4 overall, is league-leading Battle Mountain. The Huskies are 3-0 in the WSL and 4-0 overall.
