Vernon LeRoy Reeves died Aug. 26, 2005, near Wendover, Nev., after an auto accident. He was 61.
Vernon LeRoy Reeves was born June 5, 1944, in Hotchkiss to Ervie and Juanita (Green) Reeves.
Reeves has been a longtime resident of the Yampa Valley and has resided in Craig since 1976. He served in the army in France and Germany. He worked in an oilfield for a number of years, was employed in road construction for the past six years and was employed by Elam Construction of Craig at the time of his death. Reeves' favorite pastimes were shooting pool and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid backyard mechanic. He could always make a person laugh, either with a well-placed joke or one-liner. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Reeves is survived by his wife, Susan A. Reeves; son, Cameron L. Reeves; daughter, Kimberly J. Reeves; two grandchildren, Tierra Reeves and Hunter Reeves of Craig; sisters, Irene of Eads, and Velma (Jack) Buxton of Scott City, Kan.; brother, Ben (Ann) Reeves of Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews, brother and sisters-in-law and cousins.
Reeves was preceded in death by his father, Ervie Reeves, mother, Juanita (Green) Reeves, and one sister, Viola Chenault.
Services were held Sept. 2, 2005, at Grant Mortuary Chapel with Rod Compton officiating.
The organist was Anne Carr, and the soloist was Wanda Brown.
Selections were "Old Rugged Cross," and "In The Garden."
Pallbearers were Rollin Wilaby, Daniel Dunning, Clettus Daus, John Lamb, Roy Butler and Butch Cary.
Honorary pallbearers were "All Vernon's Family and His Many Friends."
Interment was at Craig Cemetery.
