Sandra Madelene Martinez died Aug. 28, 2005, at Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat Springs. She was 48.
Sandra Madelene Finn was born Aug. 25, 1957, in Gilman, to Joseph and Patricia (Rodriguez) Finn.
Martinez was raised in various places, including Montrose, Hot Sulphur Springs, Denver, and Oak Creek, where she attended high school. She worked at Ruby's Restaurant in Oak Creek and for the U.S. Forest Service. She met Harold Ben Martinez in 1978 and remained with him the rest of her life. They were married on July 23, 1983, in Steamboat Springs, and have resided in Oak Creek. Martinez enjoyed her animals, swimming, camping, fishing, hunting, and just being outdoors. She was a collector of cobalt blue glass and Indian artwork. She loved to be around her family and their children, and she transported senior citizens across the community. Martinez was a very generous person, and her final gift was that she chose to be an organ donor.
Martinez is survived by her husband, Harold Ben Martinez, of Oak Creek; sisters, Deedee Salazar of Montrose, Rose (Juan) Maestas of Montrose, Pamela (Edward) Chavez of Montrose, and Toni (Jamie) Amrein of Oak Creek; brothers Richard (Lydia) Finn of Denver, Tony (Dayna) Finn of Arvada, Bert (Kristi) Finn of Montrose, and Fabian (Rachel) Finn of Montrose; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other relatives; special friends Jim and Gail Artz of Oak Creek; and numerous other friends in and around Oak Creek.
Martinez was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Jane, and a brother-in-law, John Salazar.
Services were Sept. 1, 2005, at the ice rink in Oak Creek, with Rod Krey officiating.
Soloists were the Rev. Kevin Hausman and Nikki Szyba.
Selections were "Old Rugged Cross," and "One Day At A Time."
Honorary pallbearers were "All Madeline's Family and Her Many Friends."
Memorial donations may be made to the Oak Creek Ambulance Service in care of First National Bank of the Rockies in Oak Creek.
