Colorado Northwestern Community College nursing program director Marilyn Bouldin is hoping the third annual fund-raising dinner will be just as successful as the prior two, and it should be, considering some additional attractions, she said.
The CNCC Nurses Dinner, set for 6 p.m. Saturday at the Center of Craig, will include a quilt auction and belly dancing performances in addition to the meal.
"It'll be good fun," Bouldin said. "It's an opportunity to support the nursing program."
The Golden Corral in Rangely will cater the dinner, which costs $15 per ticket. Her goal is to sell 100 tickets, which are available through any nursing student. Last year, the dinner proceeds totaled $2,000.
"Most of the money is going toward scholarships and some of it's going to support the nursing program," Bouldin said.
Her sister, Carol Waugh of Denver, donated four handmade quilts to auction at the dinner. They each feature nursing-related fabrics, including the squares which frame nurse cartoons.
"I call them nurses with attitudes because so many have hands on their hips," Bouldin said. "I may just have to buy one myself because I don't want them to go."
Currently, they are hanging in the hallway of CNCC. This is the first year for a quilt auction, Bouldin said. Auctioneer Jamie Lord is donating his services for the quilt fund-raiser.
This year's dinner also marks the first to include two belly dancing performances by Melinda Bobo. One will feature a cane and the other, scarves.
"It's very beautiful," Bouldin said. "She has gorgeous costumes and it's beautifully choreographed."
The nursing program includes 44 nursing students this fall, and Bouldin said fund-raisers like this are critical to the program's success.
"The students are very appreciative," she said. "All of these students have to go to school full time so they gave up full-time jobs.
"They've made a lot of sacrifices and their families have too, so it's nice to be able to help them out."
