Anthony A. "Tony" Montoya Jr. of Craig died July 29, 2005 in Grand Junction. He was 70.

Tony was born March 8, 1935, in Rollinsville, Colo., to Anthony A. Montoya Sr. and Antonio Roybal. He was one of five children.

Montoya spent his childhood in Steamboat Springs, Hot Sulphur Springs, and Rollinsville. He graduated from Steamboat Springs High School with the Class of 1953, where he played football and skied with his best friend, Buddy Werner. On Dec. 15, 1956 he was married to MaryJane Schneider, and they were together for more than 49 years. Montoya was a resident of Craig for 51 years. He was a business owner of many different types of businesses -- AA distributors, Boyko Supply, Locksmith, and Five Star Enterprises.

He also worked for the Denver Rio Grande Railroad for 18 years and for the Forest Service in Montrose. He was a member of the Moffat County School Board for 9 years, Colorado Jaycees, Elks Club, The River Rats, and the Mens Golf Association. Montoya enjoyed gardening in his yard for hours upon hours and won several Yard of the Week awards for his efforts. He had a green thumb. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, skiing -- both water and snow -- vacations to Mexico, watching the Denver Broncos and spending time with his family and friends.

Montoya is survived by his wife MaryJane Montoya of Craig; sons Mark (Shelly) Montoya and their children Madison and Rylan of Littleton, Donnie Montoya and his daughter, Ashley Montoya of Craig; daughter Michelle Favorel of Centennial and her son, Miguel of Parker; brother, John (Sue) Montoya of Fort Laramie, Wyo.; sister, Mira (Ray) Muirhead of Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren Miguel (Melissa) Favorel, Candace Favorel, Madison and Rylan Montoya, and Ashley Montoya; great grandchildren Tyler Favorel, Zerik and Kailah Favorel, who lovingly called him "PA", and numerous nieces and nephews and numerous of friends. He now looks down on us as our Special Angel. He will be greatly missed.

Montoya was preceded in death by both his parents Anthony and Antonio Montoya, and one sister, Lucy Martinez of Grand Junction.
