Ed and Shannan Koucherik's property in Craig is going to the dogs -- but they planned it that way.

The Koucheriks are working on a 10-unit dog kennel that should open by the end of the month.

Honey Rock Dogs Boarding Kennel at 1202 Rose Street will be licensed for 15 dogs in 10 kennels. Shannan said the kennel's motto is: "Personal Care for Your Best Friend."

The Koucheriks have been kenneling their friends' dogs for a few years. When they bought the property on Rose, Shannan said opening a kennel was always their goal.

The kennel isn't a spa, but a simple and clean place to leave your dog or dogs while you're out of town.

"We're small enough we can give a lot of personal attention," Shannan said.

Shannan will walk dogs if people want, but not if the dogs are unruly and pull too hard.

"If they walk nicely on a leash, we will walk them," she said.

Honey Rock will also give belly rubs, Shannan said.

The facility has a large garage door at the back of the kennels that will be open on nice days, giving dogs a chance to go outside. But on cold days, the door will be closed.

Honey Rock is taking reservations right now for Christmas and Thanksgiving.

The kennel won't take aggressive dogs and dogs need to have a certificate of vaccination.

Travel firm moves from Steamboat to Craig

Rob and Kelley Sexton recently moved their full-service travel company from Steamboat Springs to Craig.

Magic Carpet Travel, an Internet-based company, has been operating in Craig for about three weeks.

The company is sort of a cross between a traditional travel agency and travel Web sites like Expedia.

Rob Sexton said because Magic Carpet is Internet-based, the agency never meets 90 percent of their clients face to face, but Rob and Kelley still try to meet as many of their customers as possible.

Rob said 30 percent of people who travel would like to have a travel agent involved in the process.

Magic Carpet can accommodate those people and the people who would rather book a trip on-line all on their own.

Rob said Magic Carpet can find deals that travelers wouldn't be able to find on their own because they are a travel agency. Rob said he gets e-mails about fares that only come to travel agents.
