A Craig man was arrested late Tuesday night on charges of theft, trespass, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
Craig Police say Frank Hickson, 36, resisted arrest and pun--ched a police officer when officers tried to arrest him Tuesday on suspicion of stealing room keys from local hotels.
Craig Police spokesman Lt. John Forgay said police had been looking for Hickson Tues--day afternoon and into the evening after receiving reports that someone was stealing room keys from hotels and sleeping in empty rooms.
Forgay said Hickson, who is homeless, had been seen near motels in recent days and matched the description given to officers by hotel workers.
Vydia Patel, co-owner of the Super 8 Motel, said someone stole room keys from the front desk and house keys from a housekeeper Tuesday. Patel said nobody saw the assailant.
Patel said the electronic room keys that were stolen are useless. Keys have to be activated by someone at the front desk to work on the motel's doors.
Officers found Hickson at about 10:30 p.m. behind businesses at 1121 E. Victory Way.
Forgay said when officers approached Hickson and told him to raise his hands, he refused.
Officers used a taser on Hickson, but he still managed to punch an officer before being subdued, Forgay said.
"Unfortunately, it was kind of a mess," Forgay said.
Hickson was charged with violating a restraining order also when a breath test showed he had been drinking alcohol.
Hickson was booked into the Moffat County Jail.
