Carl E. Whitesell of Craig died Nov. 18, 2005, at his home. He was 77.

Carl E. Whitesell was born March 25, 1928, in Middletown, Ohio, to John L. and Stella E. (Reece) Whitesell.

Whitesell was raised in Michigan until moving with his family to Craig. He married Ermina Mayberry on April 30, 1955, in Vernal, Utah. She died in 1974. Whitesell later became the close companion of Rosemary Kitchens, and they have been together for the past 20 years. Whitesell was a carpenter and worked on various construction projects in the Craig area and later in Aspen after he and Rosemary moved to Rifle. He later worked at the Rifle Creek Golf Course as a maintenance person. He and Rosemary returned to Craig in June 2004. Whitesell enjoyed painting, working on his automobiles, woodburning, making rugs, watching TV and taking care of Kitchens. In earlier years, he also enjoyed hunting.

He is survived by his companion, Rosemary Kitchens of Craig, and her children Cassidy (Michael) Martorana of Philadelphia, Pa., Margaret (Howard) Stees of Hayden, and Jannie Brenner of Craig, and their six children; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Whitesell was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Ruth and Betty Jean, and brother, Tom.

Memorial services were held Nov. 22, 2005, at Grant Mortuary with Pastor Rod Compton officiating.

Selections were "How Great Thou Are" and "Take My Hand Precious Lord."
