Craig man arrested

A Craig man was arrested late Friday night after officers say he followed another man in a car and punched him in the face.

Shane M. Whittington, 33, of Craig, was booked into Moffat County Jail early Saturday morning on charges of third-degree assault, driving under the influence of alcohol, domestic violence and reckless driving. As of 6 p.m. Monday, he was being held on $1,500 bond.

An officer reported seeing a man driving erratically on Victory Way at about 11:45 p.m. Friday, Craig police spokesman Lt. John Forgay said.

The man appeared to be chasing another vehicle, so the officer followed, Forgay said.

The man pulled his truck into a liquor store parking lot behind the other car, Forgay said.

Officers said the man got out of his truck, yelled at the vehicle's two passengers and punched the driver in the head, Forgay said.

The passenger of the other vehicle was Whittington's ex-girlfriend, leading to the domestic violence charge, Forgay said.

Whittington failed a roadside sobriety test, according to police reports, and was charged with driving under the influence.
