Moffat County Neighbor: Tim Jantz

Tim Jantz

Age: 44

Occupation: Sheriff's sergeant

What should your business card say you do? I'm a patrol supervisor. I handle calls, and I also supervise patrol deputies, making sure calls are handled, reports are done, scheduling.

Place of birth: Baraboo, Wis.

When did you move to Moffat County and what brought you here? I moved here in 1980, and I came to work at the power plant when it was Colo-Ute. I moved here from Phoenix because that's where I grew up.

Describe your morning routine. I don't have one because I work shift work. If I do work mornings, I get up and I exercise and I read. I do quite a bit of reading.

How would your friends describe you? I would say loyal. I'm very loyal to my friends.

Have you ever had a book change your life? What was it and why? I've actually had a couple of them. The Bible is one and one is on post-traumatic stress disorders, and the author did a dedication page to me. It helped me understand what I was going through and changed my life.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? Cop, because my dad was a sheriff's officer. He was killed in a gunfight and all I've ever known is to be around cops.

If you could invite any four people over for dinner, who would they be and what would you serve? Gen. Colin Powell, Christ, my dad and Abraham Lincoln. Roast leg of lamb.

What are the three things you can't live without? God, my family and my friends. They may be standard answers, but they really are my life blood.

What was your most embarrassing moment? Which one should I choose? Probably when I worked for the Sheriff's Department and Bill Engler with the TV station filmed me hiking up my britches after I stood up.

Which superhero would you be? I consider my dad a superhero. I hope that I would do the honorable things he did.

What's the worst reason you've received/given for breaking up with someone? The best one I was ever given is, "Well, I've already had a boyfriend while I was dating you." Thanks for letting me know.

If you had to give up one of your five senses, which would it be? Taste. I wouldn't want to give up sight or sound. I love to hug people so I wouldn't give up touch. And I like to get up in the morning and smell coffee.

What band/performer would you stand in line to get tickets for? Oh, definitely The Eagles. No doubt. I've done it before and I'll do it again.

What music, book or movie are you ashamed to admit you love? The Herman cartoon series. I have the whole treasury of his cartoons.

What would you do if you won $10 million? Definitely provide for my mom and my wife's family, allow my son to have a college education and give to the church and several missions. The missions that help the poor and the hungry -- those are the ones that are near and dear to my heart.
