Robert V. 'Bob' Barnes: 1930-2005

Robert V. "Bob" Barnes of Hayden died Nov. 6, 2005, in Steamboat Springs at Yampa Valley Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. He was 75.

Barnes was born on May 20, 1930, to Marvin and Marjorie Barnes in Hayden.

He married Mary Johanna Puff on May 7, 1949, in Craig. To this union were born six children, Bobby Joe Barnes, David Vail Barnes, Kathleen Ann Smith, Pamela Sue Copeland, Mary Rebecca Stephenson and Samuel Ray Barnes. He had thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Barnes was a lifelong resident of Hayden, where he farmed and ranched all his life.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; five children; two daughters-in-law; three sons-in-law; brothers Bill Barnes of Hayden and Pete Barnes of Cedaredge; mother, Marjorie Briggs of Hayden, and many nieces and nephews.

Barnes was preceded in death by his father, Marvin; brother, Jack; son, David; and grandson, Tony.

Funeral liturgy was held Nov. 12, 2005, at Hayden Congregational Church with Father Ernest Bayer and Janet Babish officiating. The pianist was Jennifer Swedberg, and the soloist was David Hainault. Selections were "Amazing Grace" and "I'll Fly Away."

Special selections were "23rd Psalm," by David Hainault, and "By My Side," by Father Ernest Bayer and David Hainault.

Pallbearers were Shane Camilletti, Jeff Camilletti, Brent Barnes, Zach Barnes, Derek Stephenson and Jimmy Rossi.

Honorary pallbearers were "All Bob's Family and His Many Friends."

Interment was held at Hayden Cemetery.

There was a celebration of Barne's life at the exhibit hall after the burial.

Donations may be made to the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center in care of Grant Mortuary.
