U.S. Postal service gives holiday package deadlines

The U.S. Postal Service has announced its recommended mailing dates for delivery by Christmas to military overseas APO/FPO addresses and international destinations.

The dates are based on the most economical air and surface transportation. The earlier the overseas mailing date, the less a parcel costs to mail.

Most holiday items should be sent by regular mail to military addresses overseas by Dec. 10 for arrival by Christmas. Holiday mail sent to non-military international destinations should be sent by Dec. 12.

For the lowest-cost parcel rate, holiday packages sent to U.S. military overseas should be mailed by Saturday for delivery before Christmas.

Express mail still will be available for delivery by Christmas to most overseas military and most international locations if the sender mails items by Dec. 19.

Domestic U.S. holiday mail deadlines for delivery by Christmas are:

Dec. 21 using regular mail and priority mail service, to send cards, letters and packages to out-of-state destinations and Dec. 22 to mail to in-state destinations.
