Subway manager wins top honors


For the second consecutive year, Judy Peters is a cut above the rest.

The Craig Subway manager recently won her second manager of the year award in as many years.

"It's pretty exciting," Peters said. "And not just for me, but for my whole crew."

Peters was chosen from a pool of more than 160 Subway managers in the region.

Managers were judged on a variety of criteria, including sales, employee turnover and their store's performance on monthly inspections.

George Barlow, the owner of the Craig Subway, said he nominated Peters for the award again this year because she excelled in virtually every category.

"When you add it all up, you realize she has improved on what was already a great year," Barlow said.

One area where Peters did especially well was employee turnover.

"I'm pretty flexible (with employee schedules)," Peters said.

Many of Subway's employees are high school students, so Peters tries to build their schedules around extracurricular activities.

"I really think education is important," she said.

Peters tries especially hard to make sure all her employees can attend prom. "You're only in high school once," she said.

Peters has two children of her own, 23-year-old Eric and 13-year-old Mikey.

She has been in the restaurant business for more than 20 years and at Subway for the past three.

"Running a restaurant is not an easy task," Barlow said, but Peters enjoys it.

"I like meeting the customers," Peters said. "I meet someone new every day."
