Kiwanis Club hands out scholarships to students

The Craig Kiwanis Club presented the 2005 Stanley G. Slaugh Memorial Scholarships May 11 to seven graduating Moffat County High School seniors.

Alicia Thompson received a Key Club Scholarship of $1,500. She will be attending Colorado School of Mines and studying chemistry. Alicia was accompanied by her parents, Rocky and Patricia Thompson.

Nicole McIntyre also received a Key Club Scholarship in the amount of $1,500. Nicole will study psychology at Colorado State University. Her father, Zander McIntyre, also attended the dinner.

Brittani Weber received a $1,000 scholarship and will attend Mesa State College. She will study radiologic technology. Brittani's mother, Toni Lyons, was in attendance.

Chris Stettler received a $1,000 scholarship, which he will use to attend the University of Northern Colorado, where he will study business with emphasis on computer information systems. Mike Stettler, Chris' father, attended the dinner, as well.

Klava Caras was presented with a $1,000 scholarship. She will attend Mesa State College to study nursing. Her parents, Terry and Irena Caras, attended the dinner with Klava.

Sarah Kawcak was awarded a $1,000 scholarship which she will use to attend Oklahoma State University or University of Wyoming to major in molecular biology with animal science emphasis. Sarah's mother, Reneta Kawcak, attended the dinner with Sarah.

Sari Maneotis also received a $1,000 scholarship. Sari will be studying psychology at Colorado State University. Her mother, Jeanne Maneotis, attended the dinner.

"We had a great group of applicants this year, and more than usual," said John Husband, the club's youth services chairman. "A total of 34 students applied for scholarships this year, and it was tough to choose. All the parents can be very proud of their kids. We're very happy to help the scholarship recipients further their education and we hope they can go on to accomplish some great things."
