Terrie Barrie: Craig

I must take issue with the headline in Saturday's Morning Press, "Opposition group softens stance." Northwest Colorado Cares did not soften its position against importing low-level radioactive waste to Mr. Ross' Maybell site. We are against it. Your headline would lead others to think otherwise.
At Friday's meeting, Mr. Ross stated that he attempted to get the Department of Energy to clean up his site and was refused because the government has no money for this cleanup. As accurately quoted by Christine Currie, I offered our group's resources to pressure DOE or the state of Colorado to properly clean up the spoil piles on this site. I learned today that these piles can remediated by either spraying soil glue on them or something as simple as re-vegetating them. If there are business alternatives to importing low-level radioactive waste, NWCC may support Mr. Ross in that endeavor. In no way did I infer that if these action were not successful, NWCC would support bringing in low-level waste from across the country to clean up Mr. Ross' property. I do not support this and neither does NWCC.
I appreciate Christina Currie's accurate reporting, but the story's headline leaves a lot to be desired.
Sincerely,
Terrie Barrie
