Man accused of attempted murder
A Craig man is accused of trying to choke his wife to death and faces charges of second-degree attempted murder and second-degree assault.
Craig Police arrested Albert Michael Paroli, 52, last week after his wife called 911.
Screaming, she told dispatch that a man was trying to kill her, according to a police report.
When police responded, they reported finding the victim outside the house in the 400 block of East Fourth Street. Officers reported noticing alcohol on her breath and red marks on her neck.
"He tried to choke me to death," police reported the victim saying. The alleged incident occurred after the victim's ex-husband called her.
Police reported that Paroli was too drunk to provide them with much information. He told police he had consumed a six-pack of beer. He denied attempting to strangle his wife but said she probably called 911 because she was afraid for her life, according to court documents.
On the floor in the house, police reported finding a broken necklace with blond hair stuck in the chain. Police reported that the victim said it was hers and for 10 years had never taken it off.
Police arrested Paroli and took him to The Memorial Hospital, where hospital staff cleared him to be taken to jail.
From the house, they confiscated a partially consumed bottle of Skol vodka and some bottles of Moosehead beer, according to the report.
The victim declined medical treatment, but an EMT checked her condition in an ambulance that reported to the scene. The victim had scratches on her back in addition to the red marks on her neck, according to the report.
Paroli was being held at the Moffat County Jail on a $50,000 personal recognizance bond.
According to police, he has a criminal history in California. He was charged with assault and battery there.
