Brian Markham is looking forward to walking in the Moffat County High School graduation ceremony with the honor of being the president of National Honor Society and also graduating from Colorado Northwestern Community College the same month with an associate's degree in applied science/CISCO networking.
In August, he will report to San Antonio to enter the Air Force as an airman 1st class. After basic training, he will attend technical school for additional training to begin his position working with signal intelligence. After a stint in the Air Force, Brian plans to work for a government agency.
Organization and effort keep Brian going. In addition to attending high school and college classes, Brian has been working as a computer aide at CNCC and holding down a second job repairing computers for The Copy Shop. He thinks that being able to complete his CISCO networking degree while attending high school was a great opportunity, and he thinks that he received a high-quality education in the process.
He doesn't think the community fully realizes how beneficial dual enrollment and the availability of other college classes are to students such as him. He is grateful for instructors such as Kirk Ferguson, who taught a number of his networking classes including C++ programming, Linux and networking computer repair. Not only was Ferguson knowledgeable, but Brian found he had a sense of humor and a unique way of challenging his students. Although Brian has enjoyed his time at MCHS and CNCC, he looks forward to traveling around the world and facing new challenges.
Brian is the son of Patricia and Thomas Orwig of Craig and Richard and JoAnn Markham of Jacksonville, Fla.
