Alumni runners rack up awards

Moffat County High School alumni Kelly Christensen and Emily Mortensen added more All-American awards to their already prestigious careers at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Boston.

Christensen, who finished third at the na-tional cross- country championships in the fall, had three All-American performances at the meet. The former Bulldogs has been an All-American seven times.

The senior finished fifth in the mile and seventh in the 5,000-meter finals. He teamed up with Scott Swearingen, Brian Black and Rob Thayer in the distance medley relay for an eighth-place finish.

Christensen earned a national championship last year in the 3,000 steeplechase in outdoor track. The senior will now move on to the outdoor season to defend his title.

Mortensen earned her seventh All-American plaque with an eighth-place finish in the 5,000. The junior was the third runner from Adams State College in the race. Mortensen helped her team to a national title in cross country in the fall with an 11th-place finish.
