Delfido Alberto Martinez of Craig, died June 20, 2005, at his home. He was 71.

Delfido Alberto Martinez was born Nov. 24, 1933, in Las Mesitas near Antonito, to Eliseo and Siria (Ruybal) Martinez.

Martinez was raised in Craig, where he graduated from high school with the Class of 1952. After high school, he attended the University of Colorado for two years. Martinez served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He lived for a time in Rangely, but most of his life was spent in Craig. He married Patricia Camilletti on Jan. 30, 1960, in Craig, and to this union, two sons were born, Delf Leon and Martin Allen. Martinez worked as a manager of the Phillips 66 gas station and for the Moffat County Road and Bridge Department, was part owner of Stockman's Liquor, and worked as a dispatcher for Yampa Valley Electric, where he worked until retirement a few years ago. He married Martha Ugalde on Oct. 8, 1977, in Las Vegas, Nev., and to this union two children were born, a daughter, Isis Monique, and a son, David Lee. Martinez enjoyed flying model airplanes with his brother-in-law, Bob Mitchell, shooting guns, cooking, camping, and fishing. He was an active volunteer in the community. He was a trainer for the Junior Olympic Shooters. He was also an active volunteer for the VFW Bingo. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time with his family. Martinez was a member of the Craig Elks Lodge, having served as past exalted ruler, the Masonic Lodge, the Shriner's, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Bears Ears Sportsman Club, and active member of Saint Michael's Catholic Church.

Martinez is survived by his wife, Martha Martinez; daughter, Isis (Martin) Beckett; sons Delf, Martin, and David, all of Craig; grandchildren, Trevor Martinez and Kale Beckett; sister, Dorothy (Harry) Seip of Fresno, Calif.; brothers, Ben of Baggs, Wyo., and Alfred, Armando (Gloria), of Craig; and his many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Martinez was preceded in death by his parents.

The rosary was held June 24, 2005, at Saint Michael's Catholic Church, and a Mass of Christian Burial was held June 24, 2005, at Saint Michael's Catholic Church, with Father Jose Saenz as celebrant.

The pianist was Gail Petch, and the soloist was Joyce Miller.

Selections were "Ave Maria," "Be Not Afraid," and "On Eagles Wings."

Pallbearers were Frankie Reina, Ryan Otis, Shea Carr, Martin Beckett, Benny Martinez, Justin Martinez, Tony Balleck, and Keith Carr.

Honorary pallbearers were "All Delf's Family and His Many Friends."

Interment was held at Craig Cemetery with a graveside service by Yampa Lodge #88 AF & AM, and military honors by Officers of VFW Post #4265.

Memorial donations may be made to the VFW or St. Michael Altar and Rosary Society in care of Grant Mortuary.
