Ralph Charles Rutherford
Ralph Charles Rutherford, of Craig, died at his daughter Barbara's home in Fort Collins on June 16, 2005. He was 88.
Rutherford was born on his grandparent's ranch on Morgan Bottom, two miles west of Mount Harris. He grew up in the coal mining town of Mount Harris and graduated from Hayden High School in 1933. Rutherford married Marie Laura Knez in Craig in 1939. She preceded him in death in 2000. After the mine and the town of Mount Harris closed, they settled in Craig in 1958 and lived there until their deaths. He worked as a bookkeeper at local auto dealerships until he retired. He and his family were members of St. Michael's parish for many years, and he belonged to the Knights of Columbus council there for most of his life. He was a loving husband and father and was dedicated to his faith.
Rutherford is survived by his daughters, Barbara Martin and Marlene Henderson of Fort Collins; sons, Edward of Fort Collins, and Lawrence of Colorado Springs; brother, Leonard of Huntington Hills, Calif.; brother, Francis, and sister, Marie Turner, both of Craig; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews in the Craig vicinity and elsewhere.
A rosary was said at St. Michael's on June 19, 2005. A requiem Mass was celebrated for Rutherford at St. Michael's Catholic Church on June 20, 2005, with Father Jim Fox as celebrant. Interment was at the Craig Cemetery.
