Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

A Craig man was arrested Tuesday night on charges that he kidnapped and assaulted his former girlfriend.

Lyle Olsen, 42, faces charges of attempt--ed first-degree mur----der and second-degree kidnapping.

Shortly aft--er 11 p.m., police received a call regarding a domestic dispute in the 600 block of Yampa Avenue. When police arrived at the home, Olsen was coming out of the residence, police said.

Police detained him without incident and entered the residence. Once inside, they found the victim. The victim had visible injuries and was taken by ambulance to The Memorial Hospital, said Sgt. Bill Leonard of the Craig Police Department. The victim was treated and released from the hospital Friday morning.

Leonard said the victim apparently went over to Olsen's residence earlier Thursday. After she arrived at the home, Olsen is alleged to have grabbed her and brought her into his house, police said.

Olsen allegedly would not let the victim leave and held her against her will, prompting the kidnapping charge, police said.

Leonard said Olsen threatened the woman with a firearm and a knife and had caused her some bodily injuries.

Olsen is being held in the Moffat County Jail on a no bond-domestic violence hold.

Leonard said the victim was "visibly shaken" by the incident.

The case is under investigation, and more details will be released when the Moffat County District Attorney's Office files formal charges.
