Artchie Lee Burns, resident of Craig from 1959 to 1963, died June 6, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction. He was 68.

Artchie Lee Burns was born Jan. 14, 1937, in Paonia, to Slim (R.B.) Burns, and Betty (Kimbrough).

While living in Craig, Burns was a police officer for the city of Craig and a horse trader. His good friends were Chuck Shively, Dean Lawton and Carl Chapman. He moved to Akron, where he became a state patrolman. After many years he finally got back to the place he loved, Delta and Paonia, where he continued to be a horse trader, and began selling Mannatech Phytochemicals, a nutritional supplement. Burns was a loving companion, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Burns is survived by his partner of 10 years, Nikki Jones; children Cindy (Jesus) Burns-Contreras, Brenda Burns, Becky (Kemitt) White, Theresa (Trace) Fair, and Bary (Athena) Burns, and their mother, Joanne Burns; grandchildren Melissa (Chalin) Guevara, Jeremy (Jessica) Haptonstall, Rachel (Anton) Fredrickson, Joshua, Amy, Matthew Haptonstall, and Alicia Burns, all of Craig, Justin, Levi and Brandon Burns, Marshall (Jamie) White, Chrystal, Alex, and Tristan White, Tyler, Spencer, Cassidy Fair, and Cory Burns; ten great grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth (Tom) Hilliar of California; and a brother, Virgil (Barb) Burns of Montana.

Burns was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a daughter and granddaughter.

Services will be held at the Memorial Hall in Hotchkiss.
