Commissioners to attend CCI conference

The Moffat County commissioners will attend the Colorado Counties Incorp--orated summer conference next week.

There will be no commissioner meeting Tuesday because the commissioners will be at the conference in Vail.

The commissioners will meet briefly on Monday at 8:30 a.m. The next commissioner meeting is June 14.

"I hope to come back better up to speed on issues outside the county that affect us," Commissioner Tom Gray said.

The conference starts Monday afternoon at the Vail Cascade Resort and Spa and ends Wednesday.

Gov. Bill Owens will give the keynote address at the conference. House Speaker Andrew Romanoff, Rep. Jim Sullivan and Minority Leader Mark Hillman also will speak.

The three-day conference will feature seminars on topics ranging from technology to water issues.

Gray attended CCI's winter convention before he took office. He said the convention will give Moffat County commissioners the opportunity to network with other commissioners and learn about current legislation.

At the winter conference, Gray attended a seminar about how to tailor junk ordinances.

There aren't any specific issues or topics the commissioners plan to address at the conference, Gray said.

CCI lobbies the Colorado Legislature on behalf of counties.

Member counties, which include all but two in Colorado, pay dues to CCI and in return receive one vote in CCI committees.

Every member county receives the same number of votes, regardless of their population or their acreage.

Gray served on a public lands committee this year.

CCI also provides legislative updates to counties.

"It helps us monitor how things are going (in the Legislature)," Gray said.

Commissioners Darryl Steele and Saed Tayyara could not be reached for comment.
