Joseph H. Chivington
1927 -- 2005
Joseph H. Chivington, a longtime resident of Craig, died April 23, 2005, at the Veterans Home in Cañon City.
Chivington was born May 26, 1927, in Rock Springs, Wyo., the youngest son of L. H. "Doc" Chivington and Blanche B. Chivington.
Chivington was in the Merchant Marines during World War II. When the war ended, he married Dorothy Yount. After the war, he was a truck driver and mechanic in Steamboat Springs. In the mid-1950s, he moved to Craig and was a mechanic before going to work for the Craig School District, where he maintained and drove buses until his retirement. He was a devoted member of the Elks Club BPOE 1577 and the Odd Fellows Lodge.
Chivington is survived by his son, Michael, and daughter-in-law, Janice; grandsons Christopher Chivington and Nathan Boltz; four great grandchildren; a brother, E. P. Chivington; sisters Ruth Jacobson, Mary Baker and Florence Perelson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Chivington was preceded in death by his daughter, Holly, his parents, his brothers Granville H. and John M. Chivington, and a sister, Blanche Betty.
A memorial service will be held by the Elks Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars at 10:30 a.m. June 10, 2005, at the Craig Cemetery.
