Longtime Meeker resident Vera Gentry, 95, died Jan. 23, 2005, at the Walbridge Memorial Wing in Meeker.
Martha LaVera Merritt was born Jan. 3, 1910, in Mitchell, S.D. As a young girl, the family moved to Meeker, where she met and later married James Cleveland Gentry. Cleve preceded her in death on May 31, 1970. She also was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Asa.
A homemaker throughout her life, Vera helped Cleve with his rodeo stock business and hunting camps for many years. She was an excellent horsewoman. For many years, she and Cleve wintered in Arizona, where she began playing golf. She was a member of the Meeker Golf Club, the Meeker United Methodist Church and Meeker Chapter No. 100, OES, having received her 50-year pin many years ago.
Survivors include two children, Beverley (Homer) Wilson of Craig and J. Gentry of Rifle; four grandchildren, O'Shane Wilson of Loma; James Kirk Gentry, Janelle Gentry and Michelle Gentry, all of Montana; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday from Cochran Memorial Chapel with Merv Johnson officiating. Eastern Star Rites were conducted by the members of Old Meeker Chapter No. 100. Pallbearers were O'Shane Wilson, Kirk Gentry, Bryce Purkey and Harold Ball. Interment followed in the Highland Cemetery.
Friends may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association through the Cochran Funeral Home in Meeker.
