There were no new state-qualifying times, but the Moffat County High School girls swim team was pleased with its performance at the Jeffco Invitational.
"Getting all three relay teams in finals was probably a highlight," coach Jennifer Zimmerman said. "Kelsey (Conci) was our top individual."
The 200-meter medley relay finished 13th and the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams finished 12th in the 27-team meet Friday and Saturday.
"(The meet) was pretty decent for us," senior Sari Maneotis said. "It's a hard day on finals when we've been there all day and don't swim until late."
The finals started at 5 p.m. and the medley team of freshmen Caitlin and Kelsey Conci, junior Ashleigh McDonald and senior Katie Gainor took fifth in the consolation final. The team is the only state-qualifying relay team for the Bulldogs so far.
Kelsey Conci swam a personal best of 26.41 seconds in the 50 freestyle to finish second in the consolation final, good enough for 10th overall.
The freshman sprinter was in all four of the events the Bulldogs qualified in for the finals.
She joined sophomore Vanessa Murray, Gainor and her sister Caitlin in the 200 freestyle relay. That relay team improved on its time but no enough to make it to state quite yet.
The 400 relay of Kelsey, Caitlin, Murray and Maneotis took a handful of time off its previous best.
"I think we can get there," Maneotis said about her relay team's hopes for a state time.
Diver Brittnie Durham made the first cut for diving but missed making the top 16 by six points in her first Jeffco Invite. The team finished 17th in the meet against some of the top 4A and 5A teams in the state.
With three weeks left until the Western Slope Championships the girls will be experiencing some of their more difficult workouts.
"They will be getting in some good yardage," Zimmerman said. "We'll taper some of them if they haven't qualified by the Western Slopes."
Next up for the swimmers is a quadrangular meet with Montrose, Glenwood and Grand Junction Saturday at 9 a.m. in Grand Junction.
