Although two new Moffat County commissioners take office Tuesday, the meeting should be mostly business as usual.
Commissioner-elects Saed Tayyara and Tom Gray will be sworn into office at 9 a.m. in the main conference room of the Moffat County Courthouse. Refreshments will be served.
After the swearing-in ceremony, the new commissioner board will certify the bonds they are required to post to ensure that they will carry out the responsibilities of their office in good faith.
At 10:30 a.m., they'll fill vacancies on county advisory boards.
The commissioners need to fill vacancies on the Moffat County Airport, Colorado River Water Conservation District, EMS Council, housing, land use, Maybell Community Center and Moffat County Tourism Association boards, the Planning Commission and the Library Board of Trustees.
The new commissioners also will have to fill seats on the newly created Board of Appeals.
The county had to create this board after adopting the International Building Code.
The board will hear appeals to the commissioners' decisions about building and planning permits and advise the commissioners whether the original decision was justified.
At 2 p.m., the commissioners will hear updates from government agencies such as the Bureau of Land Management, the Colorado Forest Service, Dinosaur National Monument (National Park Service), Browns Park National Wildlife Refuge, the Colorado Division of Wildlife and the United States Department of Agriculture.
The commissioners now hold government agency updates every four months.
No general discussion time is scheduled on Tuesday's agenda, meaning it is unlikely the new commissioners will propose any changes in county operations on their first day of office.
