Dress warmly for weekend Art Walk
Historic Downtown Craig's Annual Art Walk celebrates one decade of artistic expression tonight.
The show begins at 5 p.m. Businesses along Yampa Avenue and parts of West Victory Way will open their doors to display the work of 16 artists.
All the traditional highlights return, including the pottery sale at the Center of Craig and weaving, spinning and music at the Museum of Northwest Colorado.
Both the Center of Craig and the museum are Art Walk hot spots, literally and figuratively.
"Even if it's cold, the museum seems to be a warm meeting place," Mary Carrera said. She'll be at the museum with Loose Threads, a spinning and weaving demonstration. Steve Catoor will also be at the museum demonstrating the lost art of braiding rope.
The National Weather Service is predicting a low temperature of 21 degrees with a 30 percent chance of rain or snow. Art lovers should be advised to dress warmly.
The CNCC pottery class has been busy molding cups and bowls, which will be for sale, with soup or hot chocolate, for $8. Proceeds benefit the pottery class.
The cups and bowls sell out fast, so get there early to be sure to get one.
There will be more music at this Art Walk than in previous years. Yampa Valley Brass, Cedar Mountain Strings, and guitarists Jim Simpson and Jim Vorhees will all perform.
New artists at the Art Walk include Julie Haskins, Aletha Dove, Nancy Dunsmuir, Claudia Peters, Joseph Lopez and Kitty Webster.
New stores hosting artists this year include 6 West Salon Hair and Nails, The Wellness Center, Dollar Craze and Bear River Emporium.
Art Walk organizers encourage artists to offer some of their pieces for sale.
