Sharon Andrew
Job title: Special education resource specialist
Number of years in teaching: 12
How did you get into education? I have always had disabled people in my life; some as neighbors, others as friends. I began working with this group at the high school several years ago and felt rewarded in helping this special population make gains in their lives.
What is the most challenging part of your job? Each child provides individual challenges. My job is to help those children find ways to successfully gain their education.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? It is extremely rewarding to see former students becoming successful and productive citizens in our community.
What is a teaching tool or method that is unique to you? Patience and a willingness to re-teach and re-teach
Describe your most heartwarming teaching experience: I have those experiences every day. There is something special happening with at least one of my students every day. They make little achievements and sometimes big successes that make me want to shout "Hooray for you!"
What are your favorite activities when you are not at school? Gardening, reading, traveling, attending concerts and stage productions, photography and painting, family get-togethers, genealogy, being involved with our ranch activities and enjoying grandchildren.
What is one thing about your profession that you wish the public understood? I wish the public could understand how much time and energy teachers devote to provide innovative ways to keep students "bought in" to education.
What do you like most about Craig Middle School? It gives me great pride to see teacher teams working together in an atmosphere of camaraderie and respect. I feel we have developed special friendships that I look forward to enjoying every day. I see our teachers using remarkable energy to provide unique instructional strategies in their classrooms. They work very hard.
