Education briefs for Dec. 10
Author: College-bound seniors need to act
Scott Anderson, author of "STOP! Everything You Thought You Knew About Paying for College is Wrong," urges college-bound seniors do three things before Dec. 31 to get the best financing options.
He recommends:
- High school seniors remove their name from all savings accounts and assets assessed by the Internal Revenue Service.
- Apply to at least four to six colleges.
- Gather student and parent financial information early to file for federal aid as early in 2006 as possible.
"Time is running out for college-bound, high school seniors, but there are still actions they can take to reduce their costs for college," Anderson said.
