Author: College-bound seniors need to act

Scott Anderson, author of "STOP! Everything You Thought You Knew About Paying for College is Wrong," urges college-bound seniors do three things before Dec. 31 to get the best financing options.

He recommends:

• High school seniors remove their name from all savings accounts and assets assessed by the Internal Revenue Service.
• Apply to at least four to six colleges.
• Gather student and parent financial information early to file for federal aid as early in 2006 as possible.

"Time is running out for college-bound, high school seniors, but there are still actions they can take to reduce their costs for college," Anderson said.

Community can meet college's candidates

Four candidates for president of Colorado Northwestern Community College will attend community forums in Craig on Monday and Tuesday when they're in Northwest Colorado for campus and community tours, personal interviews with the search committee and to participate in public forums.

All forums on the Craig Campus will be in room 201 of the Belltower building, 50 College Drive.

The candidates are:

Robert Behunin, associate executive director of Utah State University-Uintah Basin in Vernal, Utah. A public forum will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday.

John Boyd, interim provost at the Grand Strand Campus at Horry-Georgetown Technical College in Myrtle Beach, S.C. A public forum will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Weldon Sleight, associate vice president for University Extension, associate dean for continuing education -- Utah State University in Logan, Utah. A public forum will be from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday.

C.J. Law, dean of instructional services at Dawson Community College in Glendive, Mont.

A public forum will be from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday.
