COA advises hunters

The Colorado Outfitters Association wants hunters to be sure the outfitters they hire are licensed this fall.

If hunters use an illegal outfitter, they could have their game confiscated, their hunt stopped and could be charged with a felony.

The COA encourages hunters to check their outfitters' status with the state's department of regulatory agencies online at www.dora.state.co.us/outfitters.

TMH gets $50K Caring for Colorado grant

The Memorial Hospital is $50,000 richer thanks to a Caring for Colorado grant. The funds are slated for the Moffat County Care Clinic. The clinic provides medical services for uninsured and underinsured patients.

Caring for Colorado Foundation is a nonprofit, charitable organization aimed at serving the health care needs of Colorado residents. Since 2003, the foundation has awarded $28 million to health care programs across the state. The foundation gives priority to projects that provide affordable health care to underserved populations.

Boys & Girls Club

holding orientations

Orientations in English and Spanish are at 6 p.m. Sept. 8 and Sept. 22. Orientation in English only will be offered at noon Tuesday, Sept. 6 and Sept. 20.

At least one parent must attend one orientation to enroll their children in the Boys & Girls Club. Current membership expires Wednesday.

Partners hosts

leadership summit

Business owners and community leaders are invited to the 2005 Regional Leadership Summit on Oct. 6 and Oct. 20 in Craig and Steamboat Springs. The summit, hosted annually by Yampa Valley Partners, will focus on issues affecting Northwest Colorado.

From 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. Oct. 6, at Centennial Hall in Steamboat Springs, the topic is "Our Region, Our Future." From 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Craig Holiday Inn, the topic is "Our Decisions for Change."

The purpose of the summit will be to outline innovative solutions for the issues and concerns of Northwest Colorado.

Registration has begun for Philanthropy Days

Registration is under way for Northwest Colorado Rural Philanthropy Days, which returns to Northwest Colorado for the first time in four years. This year's event is from Sept. 11 to 13 at The Inn at SilverCreek in Granby.

This is an opportunity for nonprofit leaders from Moffat, Rio Blanco, Routt, Jackson and Grand counties to meet with Colorado funders to learn more about one another, build relationships and explore funding opportunities.

The $75 registration fee allows nonprofits access to training, panels and workshops, plus the chance to have valuable face time with the people from large private and government funders who make the decisions about where to send grant monies.

Tickets now on sale for annual Literary Sojourn

Tickets are now on sale for Literary Sojourn, the premier festival of authors in the Rocky Mountain Region. The 13th annual celebration of books and reading is Sept. 10 in Steamboat Springs. This year's master of ceremonies is Nancy Pearl, a regular on NPR's Morning Edition. Guest authors are Chris Abani, Haven Kimmel, Patrick McGrath and Ruth Ozeki.

YVRA expansion

Yampa Valley Regional Airport Phase 2 Terminal Expansion Project is under way. Access roads into the airport have been changed, and public parking lots will be under construction. Airport officials are encouraging the traveling public to have family, friends or commercial ground transportation companies bring passengers to the airport. Parking will be limited. All flights will be operating on their regular schedules, and it is suggested that passengers arrive 90 minutes before scheduled departures.

Boys & Girls Club

gets $15K for health

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Denver has given the Boys & Girls Club of Craig $15,000 to establish, implement and maintain a program promoting lifelong health and physical fitness for youths.

Ronald McDonald House funds organizations with programs related to children's health and well-being. The Craig program will be called the Fitness Authority.

Craig McDonald's restaurant owner, Chris Nichols, recommended the club apply for funding in May, based on current programs and services offered there.

The $15,000 will be used to implement the Fitness Authority program as well as purchase equipment, such as indoor standards and nets for tennis and pickleball, floor hockey nets, "Dance, Dance, Revolution" game and other fitness equipment such as outdoor recreational equipment.

Beginning in September, the club will feature a "Business of the Month" alongside "Club Members of the Month."

September's business of the month is McDonald's.
