Iva Rulia "Ike" Peed (1926-2005)

Iva Rulia "Ike" Peed died Aug. 2, 2005, at the Sandrock Ridge Care and Rehab Center in Craig. She was 79.

Peed was born April 10, 1926, in Craig, to David and Fern (Lugenbeel) Sommers.

Peed was raised on a ranch northeast of Craig and in Baggs, Wyo., where she graduated from high school. She married Leland W. "Bill" Peed on Aug. 1, 1946, in Hot Sulphur Springs. They made their home on the Snake River and in Craig before moving to the ranch near Elkhead in 1959. She worked at a variety of jobs in her life including being a clerk at both the Palace and Craig Drug Stores, for Mountain Meat Packing, and at Country General. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and having tea parties with her grandchildren.

Peed is survived by her sons Orval W. "Butch" (Jenny) Peed of Craig, and Raymond L. (Jill) Peed of Palisade; stepdaughters Frankie (Richard) Lane of Las Vegas, Nev., and Patty E. (Herb) Chontos of Colorado Springs; grandchildren Allen Mansfield, Dale Mansfield, Denise Spears, Arian Chontos, Crystal Porter, Brian (Debbie) Peed, Brett (Sarah) Peed, Brad (Kelly) Peed, Shawn (Kristi) Peed, and Casey Peed; great grandchildren Guy A. Mansfield, Mary Jo Mansfield, Sarah Marie Lane, Jesse Vavala, Angelo Vavala, Thadeus Porter, Chelsey Porter, Heather Marie Chontos, Christopher Chontos, Morgan Lee Peed, Payton Makenzie Peed, Jade Marie Peed, Jorin Tao Peed, and Croix Michael Ray Peed; great-great granddaughter Lexie Mansfield; and sister Julia James of Hotchkiss.

Peed was preceded in death by her parents, sister Ethel, brothers Orval, Archie, Glen, and Howard, and her husband, Leland W. "Bill" Peed, and a grandson, Terry Lynn Mansfield.

Services were held Aug. 5, 2005, at Craig Cemetery with Daniel Shaffer officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were Brian Peed, Brett Peed, Brad Peed, Shawn Peed, Casey Peed, Adrian Chontos, Allen Mansfield, Dale Mansfield, and "All Ike's Other Grandchildren."

Interment was at Craig Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Moffat County Cancer Society in care of Grant Mortuary.
