Olivia Sharee Jones: 1947-2005


Olivia Sharee Jones died April 15, 2005, at The Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was 58.

Olivia Sharee McLaury was born Feb. 2, 1947, in Newton, Kan., to Norvin and Maxine (Mead) McLaury.

McLaury's family lived in Kansas until she was 8 years old, when they moved to Cañon City, where she finished her schooling. She married Edward Smith in 1967, and they were married for 15 years, living in Cañon City and Craig. After her divorce from Edward, Jones married Tom Stanley in 1983, and they were married until his death in 1999. She married Guy W. Jones on July 11, 2001, in Craig. She was a homemaker but worked various jobs including cleaning motels, security work and at the power plant and in the hospital laundry in Cañon City. Jones was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and sang in the church choir. She enjoyed gardening, reading and being with her family. While in high school, she played volleyball and was in the school glee club.

Jones is survived by her husband, Guy W. Jones of Craig; daughters, Deborah Lee (John F.) Burman of Parachute, and Merri Leann (Michael) Hall of Jayton, Texas; son, Timothy Wayne Smith of Pueblo; grandchildren Tylre Ray and Michaela Faye Burman, and Elizabeth and Kathryn Hall; sister, Norma Sue Weis of Craig; brother, Steven Kelly McLaury of Denver; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jones was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Tom Stanley.

Graveside services were held April 21, 2005, at the Craig Cemetery with Pastor Rod Compton officiating.

Pallbearers were John Bur-man, Michael Hall, David Weis and Chuck Weis.

Honorary pallbearers were "all Sharee's family and her many friends."

Interment was at the Craig Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Moffat County Cancer Society in care of Grant Mortuary.
