Police investigate report of vicious dog
April 18, 2005
By AMY HATTEN Daily Press Writer A 3-year-old registered Pomer-anian was killed after an Akita allegedly attacked it Saturday morning, police said. The owner of the Pomeranian told police he had paid $600 for the animal. The yellow and white Akita mix was taken to the animal shelter at the McCandless Animal Hospital. The owner of the Akita, Charlene Campagna, 22, was issued two citations — one through municipal court and one through district court — charging her with having a dog at large and owning a vicious dog. Police said the owner of the Pomeranian told officers that he went outside his house in the 700 block of Prairie Street to see a large dog standing over his pet. The dog owner apparently put the dead dog into the back of his pickup. Police confirmed that it was dead. Police later found the Akita under the porch of a nearby house, the report said.

News briefs for April 19

Just because the dance ends doesn’t mean the fun does. A group of parents has been working to plan an after-prom party that no student will want to miss. There will be blackjack and Texas Hold-‘Em poker, Xbox competitions and foosball games as well as breakfast donated by Pat’s Roosterante and prizes throughout the night. The after-prom party runs from 12:30 to 3:30 a.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of Craig and is free to Moffat County High School juniors and seniors and their dates. “We just want to get kids off the streets and give them a fun, safe activity,” parent Denise McDonald said. Students can use the casino winnings at the “store” to buy gifts donated by area businesses. Those who stay the entire time will be eligible to win grand prizes including Apple iPod Shuffles, two foosball tables, two air hockey tables, an Xbox, a television, a car stereo, a gas grill and a DVD player.
