Richard Joseph Eby died March 26, 2005, at Family Health West in Fruita. He was 99.
Richard Joseph Eby was born Aug. 13, 1905, in Holt, Mo., to Oliver and Bell (Gardner) Eby.
Eby was raised in Brookfield and in Holt, where he attended school. He was married to Grace Sanders until her death in May 1962.
He then married Merle Rentfro in June 1963 in Glenwood Springs. She died in 1996.
In earlier years, Eby lived in the Kremmling area, but most of his years since 1927 were spent in Craig.
At one time he worked for the Jones Lumber Yard in Craig and later went to work for the Colorado Department of Transportation, where he worked for more than 30 years, retiring as a foreman.
After his retirement, he and his wife, Merle, moved to Grand Junction.
For the past few years he has been a resident of Valley View Manor in Craig, the Walbridge Wing in Meeker and Family Health West in Fruita.
Eby enjoyed fishing and working in his garden.
Eby is survived by his stepdaughter, Doris (James) Graham, of Fruita; stepson, Robert Rue, of Waco, Texas; eight stepgrandchildren; several stepgreat- and great -great-grandchildren; and a niece and three nephews.
Eby was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Reba and Cecil, and a brother, Evan.
Services were April 1, 2005, at Grant Mortuary Chapel with Hunt Zumwalt officiating.
The selection was "Amazing Grace."
Pallbearers were Troy Hodges, Guy Hodges, Gary Sweet and Francis Rutherford.
Interment was held at Craig Cemetery.
