- News briefs for Sept. 23
- September 22, 2004
- Last weekend’s Yahoo Golf Tournament generated more than $3,000 for the Boys and Girls Club of Craig. During a press conference Wednesday, tournament organizer Tom Knez recognized all the businesses and individuals of Moffat County that supported the tournament with donations, prizes and raffle items. The families of Tom Knez, Dan Severson and Tim Knez sponsor the tournament each year to celebrate the lives of Ralph Knez and Jim Severson. The Boys and Girls Club announced a number of upcoming activities. First, this year’s special event will be a “Roaring Twenties Costume Cabaret” at the Holiday Inn of Craig on Oct. 23. Tickets go on sale Sept. 29 and will be available from the Boys and Girls Club Special Events Committee members, Chapman’s Automotive, Craig Chamber of Commerce, Jackson’s Office Supply, New Images and other locations to be announced. Tickets for $50 each will include hors d’oeuvres and drinks, dancing and fun. Next, the Boys and Girls Club is putting together a hall of fame at the Boys and Girls Club building and would like to recognize two outstanding individuals each year by naming a “Volunteer of the Year” and a “Man/Woman of the Year” at the annual special event. Those selected will have their portraits displayed on the Boys and Girls Club hall of fame in recognition of their accomplishments benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of Craig. The “Volunteer of the Year” will be a local individual who has made a strong impact on the club as a result of dedicated involvement in the club volunteer activities. The “Man/Woman of the Year” award will recognize an individual who has had an impact on the quality of life for residents of Northwest Colorado and affected the Boys and Girls Club of Craig in a positive way. Renovation of the Boys and Girls Club building is expected to near completion by the end of October. Club and city officials will delay the addition of a new floor in the gymnasium until the Christmas school vacation to make the building available for the club programs and other community activities as soon as possible. The earliest projected date for moving programs from East Elementary to the building is Oct. 18, and only some unforeseen problem would extend the move-in date past Nov. 1. There will be a Moffat County School District teacher in-service day on Oct. 11, and the Boys and Girls Club will join with Grand Futures, RAD and 4-H to put together activities for the day for members at Craig Intermediate School from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Pledges and contributions to the Boys and Girls Club can be mailed to P.O. Box 1251, Craig, CO 81626. Pledges may be set up to be remitted monthly. Contributions currently qualify for a 50 percent tax credit toward Colorado individual income taxes. Call Pres Askew at 826-0412.
