Naomi A. Hefton: 1943-2004


Meeker resident Naomi A. Hefton died Oct. 18, 2004, at Ruth Hospice in Milwaukee, Wis. She was 61.

Naomi Ann Burrell was born Sept. 4, 1943, in Meeker, the daughter of Quinn W. and Dorothy (Miners) Burrell. She was raised on Strawberry Creek and graduated from Fruita High School. On June 1, 1968, she was united in marriage to Joe Hefton in Grand Junction. Joe survives in the family home.

A devoted and loving wife and mother, Naomi loved to be outdoors, fly fishing and gardening. Until ill health forced her retirement, she worked at the U.S. Forest Service as a receptionist.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Sonja (Jeff) Peterson of White Fish Bay, Wis.; two sons, Shane (Gina) Holden of Elk Grove, Calif., and Joe (Lori) Hefton of Craig; three grandchildren, Lewis, Grant and Derrick, and two sisters, Barbara Janewitz of Ocala, Fla., and Gertie Clark of Meeker. Her parents and two brothers, Floyd and Robert Witherill, have preceded her in death.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Cochran Memorial Chapel in Meeker. Friends may make memorial contributions to Ruth Hospice, 8526 W. Mill Road, Milwaukee, WI 53225.
