I recently spent less than one day in Craig and was very impressed with the helpfulness and friendliness of the people I encountered. My mission in Craig was to do some genealogical work. From about 1911 to 1935, my great great Uncle, Dr James G. Clayton, was the physician, chiropractor, county health officer, coroner, one term mayor, medical examiner, surgeon and sheriff of Craig and Moffat County. I am grateful to the Museum of Northwest Colorado for its assistance and the Craig Daily Press for access to newspapers. Dr. Clayton had no children and no descendants. I am researching his life for a Clayton family publication. If anyone has any recollections about Dr. J.G. Clayton, I would be very happy to learn about them.
