- Jim and Ann Dodd of Craig were named “Volunteers of the Year” by the Boys and Girls Club of Craig at the club’s first recognition program Saturday. Accolades for the Dodds included developing the plans for renovating the clubhouse, organizing volunteers to do much of the work, and retaining and overseeing the various contractors and vendors involved in the eight-month project. “Choosing the volunteers of the year will probably never again be as easy as this year,” said Pres Askew, club president. “Jim and Ann were clearly the obvious choices.” About 200 supporters of the club, most of whom were in attire suitable for the “Roaring Twenties Costume Cabaret” theme, watched the “Charleston Revue” danced by Julie Baker, Kelly Cook, Terri Jourgensen, Brenda McKey and Shannon Samuelson and choreographed by Gail Severson. The revelers were then offered, and many accepted, Charleston lessons by the troupe. State Sen. Jack Taylor was honored as the “Man of the Year.” “Each year we want to recognize as our ‘Man or Woman of the Year’ someone who not only has made a positive impact on our club, but who has contributed to the quality of life for citizens in Northwest Colorado,” Askew said. Taylor was lauded for his “tireless efforts” in assisting the club organizers and community leaders with the acquisition and renovations of the old National Guard armory building that houses the Boys and Girls Club and the Moffat County School District’s Alternative School. Master of ceremonies Kirk McKey delighted the crowd with his humor while moving the evening along at a fast pace.
