Fifteen months after she left, Mikki O'Brien is back in Craig and at the helm of the Holiday Inn.

O'Brien left Craig after nearly 11 years as the general manager of the Holiday Inn. She transferred to Santa Fe, N.M., where she managed -- for the same company -- a Marriott hotel.

"It was a lot of fun," she said. "Santa Fe was neat. I would've been happy to stay there."

She left to pursue the opportunity for professional growth at a bigger property in a larger town.

She loved it there, but when offered the chance to return to Craig, took it.

"They (Sunstone Hotels) needed to make a change," she said. "They really felt something needed to be changed here immediately."

Though she left Santa Fe before she had a chance to accomplish her goals, her return was a good decision for her family, giving her more time with her children and step-children, she said.

And after 10 1/2 years, she thought she was coming home.

"I'm really happy to be back," she said.

O'Brien has committed to be in Craig for up to two years, overseeing some renovations in 2005 and 2006 and working to improve customer service.

"You've got to sell service, because that's what's important," she said.

After two years, it's anybody's guess what she might do.

"Sunstone has a lot of properties and lots of opportunities," she said.
