Star student for Oct. 16

Kelsey Pomeroy can hold her own with the boys.

And the fourth-grader proves it every winter when she outskates her hockey teammates -- generally all boys.

She admits that she's not as handy with a puck, but when it comes to just her and the ice, she says she's "fast."

Pomeroy is a student at Ridgeview Elementary School, where her smiling face and can-do attitude have earned her recognition from teachers and administrators.

"She's just becoming a fine young lady," Principal Julie Baker said. "We're very proud of her."

Baker said Pomeroy is an excellent student who's always conscientious about the work she does.

"Her attendance record is just as great as her academic record," Baker said. "And, she always has a smile on her face."

Pomeroy said she enjoys school and that her favorite subject is math "because there are so many different things you can do in math."

Outside of school and hockey, Pomeroy likes to read and jump on the trampoline.

She's torn between a career as a teacher or a cook, which made it on the list because of the excellent cakes and cookies she bakes.
