Commemorative "Jubilee of Liberty" medals are available for WWII veterans who landed at Normandy between June 6 and Aug. 31, 1944. Veterans must be able to submit a copy of their DD 214. Operation Recognition gives vets diplomas
Veterans of WWII, Korea and Vietnam who are older than 60 and did not complete high school can receive high school diplomas. Veterans must complete an application and submit a copy of their honorable discharge. A diploma can be issued from the high school a veteran attended or the school district in which a veteran currently resides. Diplomas also can be awarded posthumously. A graduation ceremony will be on Veterans Day. Veterans who want to participate in the ceremony should apply for a diploma by Thursday, but veterans can apply for diplomas at any time. Steamboat resort group soliciting art for summer
The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association is soliciting artwork for their Summer 2005 events. Events needing artwork are the Steamboat Marathon, Fourth of July Cowboys Roundup Days, Hot Air Balloon Rodeo, Tour de Steamboat Century Ride and Labor Day Rockin' Roundup. Artists can submit concepts for any or all of these events and should include samples of their previous work. The Chamber staff and event committees will choose the design for each event and work with the artists to finalize artwork and souvenir designs. The deadline for artwork is Nov. 1. Landlord association focuses on drug problem
The next meeting for the Yampa Valley Landlords Association will beat 7 p.m. Thursday in the Craig Police Department, 800 W. First St.
The priority at this meeting will be YVLA's cooperation with the community drug task force initiated by Mayor Dave DeRose and other community leaders.
Those interested in combating the drug/meth problems infesting Moffat County should attend this meeting. Ideas and volunteers are needed to help Craig and Moffat County be a drug-free community.
Anyone interested in serving on the drug task force committee is encouraged to do so. The date for the next task force meeting will be set during this meeting. Dinosaur Monument sets dates for winter closures
Beginning Monday, some facilities at Dinosaur National Monument will close for the winter. The Green River campground and entrance station will be closed until next spring. The $10 entrance fee will not be charged until further notice. The Split Mountain campground will remain open to the public through the winter.
The water has been shut off at Split Mountain, Echo Park, Deerlodge, and Gate of Lodore campgrounds. All four campgrounds are open to the public, but a nightly camping fee will not be charged and pit toilets are available. The roads to Echo Park, Deerlodge and Gates of Lodore campgrounds are not maintained in the winter and may be closed because of drifting snow. Call 374-3000.
League of Women Voters sponsors ballot forum
The League of Women Voters is sponsoring a ballot issue forum in Hayden from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in Town Hall, 178 W. Jefferson Ave. Kay Weinland, Routt County clerk, will be present to answer any election- or voting-related questions. Mark Fischer will moderate and review the ballot issues and try to answer any questions voters may have. The public is encouraged to participate. Call 276-3737.

supply of flu vaccine
Flu vaccine is available from the Visiting Nurse Association in Routt and Moffat counties under the "Vaccines for Children Program" for all children ages 6 months to age 23 months and for children at least 6 months old who have any chronic medical disorder, such as diabetes or asthma.
Additionally, the "Vaccines for Children Program" requires the vaccine only be provided to children who have no health insurance, are enrolled in Medicaid or are American Indian or Alaskan Native. Call the VNA at 824-8233. Flu shots will be given by appointment only.
MCHS swimming pool opens for public use
The Moffatt County High School swimming pool is open to the public. Lap swimming will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from noon to 1 p.m. Saturdays. Open swim will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children and students. Season passes and punch passes also will be available and may be purchased at the high school athletics office or at the pool. Hayden sponsors English riding seminar
The Hayden Recreation Department is sponsoring an English riding seminar. The seminar will be Saturday and Oct. 23 and 30 at the indoor area in the Routt County Fairgrounds in Hayden. The cost is $86 a person. Discounts and scholarships are available. Riders may bring their own ponies or ride our gentle, experienced ponies. Helmets are provided. CNCC offers course
on belly dancing
Belly dancing, also known as Oriental dance, Middle Eastern dance and Danse Orientale (Eastern dance) will be offered at CNCC-Craig campus. The class will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday evenings at the CNCC Trapper Fitness Center. The class will count for one-half of a physical education credit. No previous experience is required.
