City Council agenda includes armory resolution

The Craig City Council will address a resolution tonight to spend $445,000 to purchase and renovate the former national guard armory.

But that money won't come from the city's general fund.

The Colorado Department of Local Affairs awarded the city a $445,000 Energy and Mineral Impact Assistance grant.

The city has offered $332,795 to purchase the building and plans to offer the Boys and Girls Club a 15 year lease for $1 a year.

It may be awhile before the deal is closed, though. The Department of Military Affairs supports the sale, but the Legislature's Capital Development Committee must approve the sale.

The property transfer and closing is not expected until November.

The lease will allow the BGCC to use the building for after-school programs, and the city's Parks and Recreation Department will use the gymnasium for its programs.

According to City Manager Jim Ferree, the Boys and Girls Club would like to pursue grants to further renovate the building, but it cannot until the ownership issue is resolved.

The council meets at 7:30 p.m. today in the council chambers of Craig City Hall.

In other business, the council will:
