Craig Police arrested a Meeker man Thursday who was wanted on a warrant for attempted second-degree murder and other charges in Meeker.
Gregory Barnes, 40, was booked into the Moffat County Detention Center after he was found in an abandoned apartment in the 700 block of Yampa Avenue at about 11 a.m., Craig Police Lt. John Forgay said.
Barnes gave himself up to law enforcement after being told officers would enter the building if he did not surrender, Forgay said.
Barnes allegedly fired a shot from a gun at his wife during the weekend, said Meeker Police Chief Bob Hervey.
Barnes, who has a previous felony conviction on his record, also is charged with felony menacing and discharging a firearm in the incident, Hervey said.
"We had information from the beginning and were watching the location (where Barnes was)," Forgay said. "We don't want anybody like that loose in our town just like Meeker doesn't."
Barnes was transported and is incarcerated in the Rio Blanco County Detention Center, Hervey said.
"The (Craig) department did an excellent job in finding him," Hervey said.
